Getting There

SJD has 4 terminals. Most US flights arrive at Terminal 2 or 3.

Immigration: Fill out the FMM tourist card (free for stays under 180 days). Have your return flight info ready.

Customs: Red/green light system. Declare anything over $500 in value.

Step-by-Step Arrival Process

  1. Exit the plane and follow signs to Immigration/Migration
  2. Immigration line: Have passport + completed FMM form. They'll stamp you in.
  3. Baggage claim: Grab your bags from the carousel
  4. Customs: Press the button — green light = go, red light = bag inspection (random, no big deal)
  5. Exit terminal: Walk past the timeshare gauntlet (say "no gracias" and keep walking)
  6. Find your shuttle: Look for your driver's sign or head to the pre-booked pickup area

Transportation

Private shuttle recommended for groups:

  • SJD Taxi — $115 for an SUV
  • Transcabo — reliable, pre-bookable
  • Sprinter van — $200 for groups (best value if riding together)

NO Uber/Lyft at the airport (available in town though).

Rental cars: Mexican insurance is REQUIRED by law ($15–30/day extra).

Private Driver

Winslow will be helping arrange travel shuttles through our private driver. Sit tight — details coming soon.

Pro Tip

Book your shuttle in advance and share with others arriving at the same time. Split the cost and skip the hassle.

Warning: Pirate Taxis

Unmarked cars will approach you outside the terminal offering rides. These are unlicensed, uninsured, and potentially unsafe. Only use official taxis or pre-booked transfers.

Money

Pay in pesos for a better exchange rate. Most vendors accept USD but you'll lose on conversion.

Use bank ATMs only: Santander, Banamex, HSBC. Avoid standalone ATMs on the street.

Most places accept credit cards. Visa/Mastercard preferred.

Card skimmers are a real risk. Use ATMs inside bank branches when possible, cover the keypad when entering your PIN, and check for loose card readers before inserting your card.

Phone & Connectivity

T-Mobile: International roaming included on most plans. You're good to go.

AT&T / Verizon: Check your international plan before you leave, or grab an eSIM.

Airalo eSIM

$5–15, data only. Great for a short trip.

Holafly eSIM

$19+, unlimited data. Best for heavy use.

WiFi is available at the estates and Diamante resort.

eSIM Setup Steps

  1. Purchase eSIM online before your trip (Airalo or Holafly)
  2. Scan the QR code to install (do this on WiFi before you leave)
  3. Label the eSIM line (e.g., "Mexico Data")
  4. When you land, enable the eSIM line and turn off your primary data

Safety

Cabo is SAFE for tourists — one of the safest destinations in Mexico. Tourist areas are well-patrolled by tourist police.

  • Stick to well-lit areas at night and travel in groups
  • Beach safety: RED flags = absolutely NO swimming. The Pacific side has strong riptides.
  • Don't flash expensive jewelry or electronics
  • Use hotel safes for valuables

Health

Montezuma's Revenge Prevention

  • Drink bottled water ONLY
  • Avoid ice from unknown sources
  • Wash hands frequently
  • Pepto-Bismol preventatively (2 tablets before meals)
  • Bring Imodium just in case

Sunburn: Reapply SPF every 2 hours, especially after being in the water.

Nearest hospital: AmeriMed (624-143-9670) — English-speaking staff, 15 min from Diamante.

What to Bring

Any prescriptions
Basic first aid supplies
Anti-diarrheal (Imodium)
Pain reliever (Advil/Tylenol)

Scam Avoidance

Airport Timeshare

People will offer "free" rides and gifts. It's a timeshare pitch. Just say "no gracias" firmly and keep walking.

Pirate Taxis

Only use official taxis (yellow with medallion) or pre-booked transfers. Never get in an unmarked vehicle.

ATM Skimmers

Use bank ATMs inside branches when possible. Wiggle the card reader before inserting. Cover the keypad.

Restaurant Scams

Check your bill carefully. Some places add unauthorized charges or inflate prices for tourists. Ask for an itemized receipt.
